Proposed new apartment block on Kedleston Road, Derby.
A planning application has been submitted to Derby City Council for a proposed development in a popular residential area on Kedleston Road, one mile from Derby City Centre.
The proposed scheme comprises a new four storey brick building encompassing 14 two bedroom apartments ranging in size from 69 – 74 square metres. Two of the units on the third floor have a larger floor area and have been designed as a penthouse style, with each having a large south facing external terrace.
The proposed apartments will be built next to Brook Medical Centre, near the Jonty Farmer public house. A separate planning application has been submitted to address car parking for both the apartments and the medical centre.
The design philosophy of the external façade is for them to appear as a rich dynamic composition of windows and balconies set within a uniform grid. The appearance of a lightweight structure has been a key driver and has led to the use of full height glazing panels. Deep reveal depths further express the façade.
The proposed development will be of a similar height to the neighbouring dwellings. The desirable, contemporary apartments will each have two double bedrooms and two bathrooms to make them appealing to a wide range of potential occupants. The proposal seeks to create a sustainable development not just in terms of carbon footprint but also by providing an attractive and safe environment for an integrated community.
A planning decision is expected at the end of January.
