Proposed new design for The Derby Market Hall.
Derby University graduate Georgina Common joins the team at Matthew Montague Architects as Architectural Assistant. Georgina recently graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in Interior Architecture and Venue Design.
For her, final year projects Georgina choose to redesign Derby’s Market Hall. Georgina said “I felt that the market hall had a lot of potential, it is a significant building for Derby and is in desperate need of refurbishing and repurposing.”
Georgina goes on to say; “The proposed new design for The Derby Market Hall was influenced by historical features found around the city. The proposal replaces the 1960’s extension with a more sympathetic design featuring arched openings and traditional masonry, to enhance the existing splendour of Victorian Market Hall.
The new use of the main hall features food and drink stalls with a generous amount of seating surrounding a performance stand for cooking demonstrations and evening entertainment. Combined with green-filled interiors, an Organic grocery store located in the new extension to promotes sustainable and eco-friendly living”.
Georgina’s final project was presented to lecturers and a panel from Marketing Derby. In addition, Georgina received The Pro Vice-Chancellor Dean’s Award for her work. Final versions of the design were displayed at the 2019 Marketing Derby Property Summit held in July at The Round House.
We are delighted to welcome Georgina to the team, who is now well on her way to designing her first corporate office refurb.
